Our motto 'We Care' is at the heart of all our treatment.

As an experienced healthcare professional, my approach toward patient care is most effective and successful when utilizing a variety of knowledge from several disciplines to find the optimal solutions and treatment options for the many patients we work with. Working together with our team of highly trained and caring experts like physical therapists, chiropractors, and massage therapists has proven to be of tremendous value to our patients suffering from acute and chronic pain. Our ability to incorporate modalities like acupuncture, yoga, weight loss strategies and nutrition counseling into our individual patient treatment programs truly makes patient care different at AHP. We are patient-centric in every aspect of our day to day activities.

Our team mission has proven time and again the value and application of movement and motion along with function in our everyday lives, and its relevance to athletes and weekend warriors, or simply to anyone who wants to improve performance, maximize healing and learn to maintain optimal health. Our concept of developing a unique multidisciplinary health care approach that treats each patient as an individual is both successful and rewarding.

As a doctor, I am a lifelong learner with a love of science and the human condition. I received my BS in Biology/Chemistry from SUNY Albany and my Doctorate from NYCC. I have extensively studied a variety of traumatic injuries such as whiplash to best understand many of the injuries we encounter at AHP. In addition, I have completed extensive postgraduate studies in rehabilitation, acupuncture, and various hands-on techniques and assessments where we have seen proven patient improvement in both chronic pain and general movement.

Equally important in our approach to treating each patient as a whole individual involves nutrition and fitness. We have dedicated members of our team who are coaches for those who are seeking to improve and maintain overall health and wellness. We offer one on one coaching, and pride ourselves on helping those who need a little extra support to get started or to get back to their own fitness journeys.

Another significant aspect of our organization is giving back to the community. I revel in opportunities to share my learnings with professionals in industry, local higher education facilities, community organizations, and area businesses and corporate branches. Sharing knowledge helps all of us stay healthy and being a positive influence for the health of the Norwalk community is a personal passion.

On a personal note, I am an enthusiastic athlete enjoying various sports, especially tennis. I live in Fairfield CT and enjoy my family time with my wife, and our four children.

  • Dr. Richard Mullin Advanced Health Professionals
    Dr. Richard Mullin

I had a terrific childhood growing up in Long Island NY. I attended Western Connecticut State University and then moved to Illinois in the early 1990’s where I graduated with multiple degrees from the National University of Health Sciences in 1994. My degrees include:

    • Bachelor of Science in Human Biology, Summa Cum Laude, 1992
    • Doctorate of Chiropractic – Cum Laude, 1994

My professional path has been long-term relationships including:

      • 1992-1995 - Associateship at Downers Grove Sports Medicine in Illinois where I was in charge of patient care and physical rehabilitation. At DGSM, I was awarded the role of “team physician” for two local high schools’ athletic departments. In that role, I supervised pre-season strengthening programs for high school to collegiate athletes as well as attended all games for triage on-site care.
      • In 1996 I returned to Connecticut and joined AHP where I continue to treat patients.
      • In 2004, I completed a comprehensive training program in whiplash and brain injury traumatology from the Spine Research Institute of San Diego. The training emphasized biomechanics of injury mechanisms, occupant kinematics, automobile crash reconstruction methods for low-speed impacts, and the most recent knowledge of soft tissue, endocrine, bone, and nervous system disorders, advanced diagnostic methodologies, and the comprehensive case management of whiplash and related disorders.
      • In 2008, I completed training in acupuncture and began utilizing acupuncture as an adjunct to my physical medicine training. I have seen many positive results utilizing acupuncture for acute pain and chronic injuries with our patients at AHP.

My treatment philosophy is to heal the body by helping to restore normal movement and function. The focus of therapy is not only on the spinal articulations and peripheral joints but on the associated musculature. Restoring normal muscle strength, tone, and length of the affected region is essential in restoring normal mechanics, whether one is treating the neck, the foot, or any region in between.

I encourage patients to participate in daily strengthening programs in order to avoid recurrence of these injuries and to teach patients how to maintain their own health. Working in tandem with AHP’s PT department as well as providing acupuncture services allows me the multi-disciplinary approach I feel is the ideal protocol for pain reduction and rehabilitation. I have always believed that a team approach offers patients the best chance of recovery.

I live with my wife and son in upper Fairfield County where we enjoy gardening, home improvement projects and I’ve even been known to whip up some pretty tasty home-brewed beers throughout the year.

  • Melissa-Goldring-RPT
    Melissa Goldring, RPT

After graduating with a degree in Physical Therapy, I joined Advanced Health Professionals in 1999. What drew me to AHP was our multidisciplinary approach to healthcare. My goal has always been to help people recover from injury and to feel better with whatever tools can maximize healing. For those that could benefit from it, our collaborative efforts, looking at a patient’s injuries from our own disciplines in Physical Therapy and Chiropractic perspectives does just that—it maximizes healing.

I have been fortunate to observe several surgeries, including multiple joint replacements and reconstruction. In 2010, I was invited into the OR to observe a complex spinal surgery with one of my own patients with Dr. Lipow, head of Neurosurgery at Bridgeport Hospital.

In the 20+ years I have been practicing at AHP, I have received numerous certificates in advanced manual therapy & rehabilitative techniques.  Some of these include:

      • Pre/post-surgical patients—Advanced techniques in rehab with THR,TKR & shoulder replacements, Rotator Cuff and Labral Repair, ACL repair, ankle and spinal fusions to name a few
      • Post trauma/chronic pain and how it affects the rehabilitation process
      • Arthritic conditions and how nutrition impacts the body during recovery
      • Research in pharmacology and how medications impact recovery from trauma
      • How to incorporate yoga and pilates techniques specific for rehab programs during Physical Therapy

I believe educating and giving people the tools they need to incorporate wellness into their everyday life gives more value in the long run.

As Director of Physical Therapy at AHP for almost 2 decades, I take great pride in getting to know my patients, helping them achieve their health and fitness goals. I believe that earning my patients trust; educating them in health and wellness and creating a fun rehab environment helps enhance a patient’s experience, and encourages them to move toward their own desires to Feel Well. Live Well. Age Well.
